Normally rain destroyes most intentions, shows and exhibitions but no! Not this time.
The first day was cloudy and warm with a giant audience both inside and outside. The main attraction there, Western Chaos FMX show had material defects and left cancellation the day before! Then step allspice grain organizer Marie Eriksson, front and together with Team Octane drifting driver Olle Olsson, who was on the scene, they called in one of Europe’s best Freestyle Jumper Tobbe Gullblom from Ludvika.
Tobbe drove up at night with his jump ramp on the trailer but not with his landing ramp. It was taken from Östersund and a game in the game was to see how it would go. After minimal sleep and assembling of ramps where the audience on tenterhooks when they learned of the conditions . Tobbe had no chance to do test jumps, adjustment or modification. With housands of paying in place it was time . Sharp mode without a chance to doubt for Tobbe .
Low on sleep and food Tobbe Gullblom put on his helmet , scratched on fire the 250 – cubic MC, circled around a few times , waved to the crowd, pulled the throttle and flew 45 feet in the air. Right there , he was alone in the sky floating towards a landing ramp he’d never seen . He put down the bike soft as a Boeing after a charter trip , slid with locked rear wheels against the railing, gave it a soft touch and stretched his hands towards the sky while the audience screamed . Then followed an incomparable Freestyle Show and someone said :
– This time , it became sharper with a replacement.
Olle Olsson then swept into the area smoking tires with its turbocharged V8 BMW where he tip toed between ramps and audiences like a cat fwith a 800 rear-wheel horses spinning wheels and a couple of inches to spare between the public railings and steel structures.
Three buildings of cars were made in public, shows, competitions and demonstrations PLUS 150 exhibited cars AND sellers and associations and . . .
– Saturday’s Motor Show in Östersund contained everything and the crowd came .
Sunday rained away or …?
The weather forecast for Sunday was lousy . Worst case . A cold rain from the morning with increasing rain during the day , evening and night. The prognosis struck home with 100 percent accuracy and the crowd came ! Yeahh!
Of course it would have been more if it had been sunny and for those outsida it was a tough day … but inside it was full . A collegial warmth spread . People from this area refused to bend down. They pulled on the happy face, came , smiled , drank coffee from vending machines and had a good time.
The day was delightfully messy . Mari pointed with his arm and rewrote the schedule, moved outside arrangements inside and pieced with the times .
At the awards ceremony , it was crowded in the hangar. Crowded!
– Nah, Sunday rained away? No, not at all .
Audience , organizers, entertainers and exhibitors did it together .
Absolutely redicilous rain stopped the finishing of the VW hotrod although they worked hard. They got a throphy for crazy wounderful try.
