Rock’n’Bowl Strangnas

I slither in white boots through the doors of Thomas Arena in Strangnas and is referred down a long staircase to the ground floor. It’s a cold but snowless night the 15th of March 2014. The closer I get to the underground the clearer I hear tunes from Maybelline, see the bowling balls in neon, colors from spotlights and polka dot dresses draping laughing women. The bowling alley in Strangnas is bursting with light, vitality and rock’n’roll. By Ellen Kay Krantz.

It’s Rock’n’Bowl for invited guests in Strangnas. An event by Rockabilly.nu. Cheerful car enthusiasts have gathered to do the only sport we really tolerate. Ladies in colorful dresses and men in leather vests, jeans jackets and lumberjack shirts all slither together on slippery floors in worn down boots while a live band performs our favorite songs from the 50’s.

RockingCats

Rocking Cats rocks the house.

A dynamic band
The Rocking cats is a constellation consisting of musicians from several different well known bands. Tonight they are all gathered in one place to cook up something new. And they cook with lots of dynamic. They balance their performance beautifully and play off the audience by tuning it down for conversation and leaning on their instruments to tempt the audience to dance.

Jim Bergvall

Jimmy Bergvall and Kim Backlund – She asked him to dance and he finally gave in!

KramPar

Hacke and Helena from Stallarholmen met 40 years ago and have not left eachother’s side since then.

Sense of the night
The combination of a characteristic retro sport as bowling with colorful balls and the sound of the falling cones in relation to warm 50’s rock and the feel of stiff jeans jackets is amazing. It has seldom been so much fun to bowl and seldom so much fun getting wild on the dance floor to the beat of cones falling and rock’n’roll playing.

Wendela

Cool Vendela is used to riding horses and put her limberness into good use.

Bowlare

Bowling in leopard print and making it look good.

When the entry doors close behind me and with the hood pulled tight over my head I enter into an entirely different reality. The dark, cold, silent night. A feeling of loneliness hits me as I push the pedal to the floor on the highway. But then I hear them, the cones falling to the beat of the music on to the shiny ground and the guitarist’s seductive solo playing with long tones and careful fingers. My heart is filled with warmth and I smile to myself when the speed camera suddenly fires of a shot.
– 300 bucks and a smile, totally worth it.

  1. Please send me the link to the article in your April 2014 magazine on pages 48-52 about Ron Siegrist’s 1952 98 Olds Convertible. I was not able to find it on your webiste. I want a copy in English. Thank you.

  2. That´s another Magazine called Bilsport Classic who I also write for. They don’t have their magazine online unfortunally. As I’m the writer of that article I have the text digitaly of course.
