Made in USA by Swede?

PENNSYLVANIA USA. Moose’n around at Hershey and saw something unique. The eyes became even bigger after a while.

1929Rute_2

Let us put two and two together.
The car was registered in 1929 as a Rute.It was built during the period 1928-1932.The builder‘s name was Henry Lungstrom1929Rute_5

Sir Henry’s name was probably Henry Lundström. A typical Swedish name.  Maybe he came to the United States as an adult. Maybe he came to the US as a child at the beginning of the century. Maybe he was born in the USA with a Swedish father. Anyway, the small car is most likely a piece of Swedish car manufacturing in the United States.

And Rute ?? It means nothing in the American language from (correct me if I’m wrong) , what I know. Route maybe for Henry if the boy thought  the road or something.
-Nah, he called the car of course after his Swedish mother, or other important woman he only heard the name pronounced of. It’s . . . .

-Rut.
The Swedish female name. Rut.

The  construction with original engine and gearbox next to it did not run. It had a Yugomotor at the moment and it run perfect. The small hand built convertible  was for sale. A unique piece of Swedish car building inside the US.

SEK 140,000 will loosen the hand brake and cruise into the sunset.

  1. There you go Uffe! Mabye the car was named after a place?!

Rute Gotland. Next step for the curious: Was there a Lundström or Ljungström in the parish of Rute who left Sweden for USA back then?
-Can Gotland have a car brand of their own in the states?

    I agree with Plåtconny. All these destinys . . . .

  2. Looks like Henry’s car. I sat in it many times in front entry room to the machine shop. Knew Henry very well!! He told me once that he “didn’t know a G—-thing I have only a six grade education.” He one one of a kind!
