FLORIDA. 82 degrees. The simmer only created by a close crowd who has a lot to talk about washes over the area like the waves in South Beach. Cars arrive and leave during the entire evening at Merchants Crossing Fort Myers. The sun tan takes a breather in the shade of the palm trees. I glance at my watch. Half past five. Things are as good as they could be. Just as they should. by Lars Krantz. Translation Ellen Kay Krantz
This Buick hasn’t been seen on this asphalt before. It’s new for tonight.
– Where are you from? I ask the owner who’s in his thirties.
– I live just around the corner, he says. I’ve got a custom shop.
– Why don’t you drop by some day, he says and leans out of my area of vision. He’s here to discover, not to be discovered. The cars keep on coming. They open up vacant lots to give room for more beauties. Is it a record? Naaw, this is how it usually is. Hundreds of cars on a Monday night. Why don’t you tag along.
The motor space on the Ford baffled me the most. Gold, chrome and stainless steel. The rest of the Starliner in black and chrome. Black windows complete the slick look. It’s legal here. As is very much else.
A Zimmer! What’s that?
A Zimmer is a plastic body on a Thunderbird or a Lincoln Chassie, in this case a Lincoln with 400 Ford V8 and C6 automat.
It had belonged to a lady. Was sold at the end of the night.
Pearl White.
Not only Ford. This Chevy from the 40’s didn’t just have the sense of brand spanking new. It was totally newly built. After the same recipe as the Woodie above.
Gots to have the little red one. There’s always one in every mix. This one with Broxids’ and this evenings broadest tire.
The night slowly comes to an end. The average Joe has to be up by six tomorrow.
The American Dream lives on.
-See you next Monday.
