Krantz Challenge Vannas

Coyote Cruisers Umea runs Krantz Challenge in own production and they have the honor to nominate the first car to the Super Finale in Rattvik 2015. 

Chairman Daniel Burwall also produces a series of image stories in-house. What gifted people there are out there! Here are some words of his own from Krantz Challenge in Vannas. /Krantz

For the second consecutive year Coyote Cruisers Umea run an in-house Krantz Challenge.
We are the first to nominate a car to the Super Finale in Rattvik 2015. By Daniel Burwall. Translation Ellen Kay Krantz.

Everything is just the same as when Krantz is pulling the strings. The audience are judging, prizes are widely spread of both lottery tickets and voting pins. The big difference is that we have a new, fresh voice in the speakers. During the preparations on Friday rain and thunder came to visit but as the Saturday came the sun did too and visitors arrived in summer attire with coffee cravings.

At 11:15 AM in the middle of registration something happens.. The veteran tractor cruising in Vannas roll by the venue and keeps on going straight through for a show.

Tractors and gear of all kinds proudly paraded the area. One tractor had a wagon with a sofa and coffee table. The passengers definitely looked like they had a great time. That’s a really fun segment that is much appreciated.

Let The Fun Begin. Ding – Ding

The oddest encounters in the hobby occur in Vannas. In which other type of competition do we get to see a VW from 1970 against a Chevrolet Nomad from 1959.

In red lane is Katarina Tengman from Yttersjo in her VW 1500. She bought it as a project from her father in 2012 on one term: That she would ride it legally on the streets one day. She fulfilled her promise but her father unfortunately passed away before the restoration was finished. In the blue lane is Tony Lundgren from Lycksele in a Texas imported Chevrolet Nomad 1959 that both have air ride and a contemporary car seat.

The votes of the audience are counted and it’s so close that the Controller demands a recount!! After the recount it is established that the win goes by only a few votes to Tony Lundgren and his beautiful Nomad –59.

Like a round with the VW and Chevy wasn’t enough, next up is Swedish art of engineering against American.

Eilert Bergdahl presents his pretty Cadillac Series 62 from 1954 that he has renovated. All original with matching numbers. Mattias Oberg from Bjurholm enters the arena with his Volvo 164 from 1971, his everyday-car. The Counters scans the judges’ blue and red votes and in for this win are the American engineers represented by Eilert Bergdahl’s Cadillac Series 62 –1954.

Previous year’s winner Göran Jonsson from Hossjo came in on second place in Rattvik with his Oldsmobile 98 from 1957. He was the first one to register and is used to winning. We’ll see how he does this year. In Krantz Challenge, anything can happen.

The computer has randomly chosen Roland Jansson from Brannfors as opponent. He drives a Buick Special 1958 in blue lane.

Doesn’t Goran look just a little bit too confident?? Oh my, what’s the outcome…. Judges in the audience puts down their vote… And the win goes to… Goran Jonsson!

The starting 32 cars are soon only 16 and the starting order is randomly chosen from a computer.

That will conclude the first part of the competition in choosing eight outstanding cars. That means we’re up for our very first award ceremony.

 

Due to sudden illness we were left without a prize girl. Fortunately, Erika Johansson from Obbola competed with her father’s car and jumped in as stand-in. We thank Erika for saving us from a sticky situation.

 

In conjunction to eight outstanding cars was also prize for longest distance awarded amongst the registered cars. It went to Helge Stener who drove from Stromsund to participate in Krantz Challenge Vannas 2014.

High time for the last eight.

It’s no longer easy to be one of the 99 judges. The cars left are outstanding and the ruling much tougher…

We work our way through the eight last cars in four rounds with unbelievable cars and incredible close calls.

8 turns into 4 and we’re so close to the final 2 which means that we have reached…. The FINALE.

In blue lane we have Patrik Melinder in his red Hot Rod. Blue lane brings us Elin Falkdahl in her Oldsmobile.

The 99 judges in the stands have their voter pins held high. They are being carefully counted.
And the winner is……

PATRIK MELINDER

It’s hard to miss the excitement of winner Patrik and the standing, cheering audience. Elin Falkdahl jumps out of the Olds, rounds the Ford to give the winner a congratulatory hug. …And That’s how it’s done.

Patrik seems to be in chock as the award is coming closer. When he is asked if he’s planning to drive Hot Rod all the way down to Rattvik he replies:
– OF COURSE!!!

The Melinder family from Gubbole wins a direct nomination to the Super Finale in Rattvik 2015 with a two-day layover for two people and 420 $ in travel expenses.
