It takes a while before it’s there. The Cadillac is currently in its third version and now the owner has got it where he wants. It started with the purchase a number of years ago. Bill always buys just really nice cars before he starts.
The Cadillac had 28.000 miles when he bought it from the original owner.
At the time of shooting it had 50.000 miles. Two owners and 50.000 calm miles in 46 years then. We’re talking whispering from the 472 cubic inch big engine.
The first Bill did was to shave off moldings and handles and assemble electric door openers.
Then he skipped the fender skirts, bought two front fender moldings for the car and modified them so they fit in the rear wheel arches.
After that it became painted in white pearl and red maroon with subtle flames in red. The wire wheels came on at the same time and also by then he cut the springs. The first was done. Bill drove around happy but looked more and more at air suspension. One day he decided to go all in and hired off the job at a local workshop.
-The dumbest thing I did, he says.
-The car became unpleasant to drive, and I had two breakdowns along the way when the bellows began to leak.
Another workshop undertook to rebuild the system so there would be trouble-free.
-More Money and more frustration, says Bill because the updated system did not work either.
– Of course I can sell it if someone has the same taste.
Bill went back to the first workshop and said:
-Now I want you to build back the suspension to cut springs exactly as I had when I came in.
You get to keep the entire air gear for the inconvenience.
The car got that Cadillac feeling again. Bill loved it and rewarded him self with a repainting to that of today. The red parts with the flames were removed and replaced with the 2007 Lexus red.
For his other customs Bill had won several chromed tailpipes that just lay in the garage. He mounted dual exhaust and the chrome pipes came in handy.
This is the car he is driving the most.
– It runs like a dream and for the long trips the DeVille is the obvious choice, he says.
– Only problem is that my wife refuses to go into it.
Bill is of such size that even if he has the powerseat at the far back, he wants to tilt it down in the back and up in the front. That’s when his wife gets her legs up in the air.
– Maybe it’s time for bucket seats and a center console in pearl that runs all the way into the back seat, Bill . ; o)
